Technical work in the Industrial Ecology Virtual Laboratory (IELab) is proceeding very well. The IELab now hosts a complete build pipeline for generating detailed Australian input-output tables and environmental accounts. Build runs are now regularly started on the NeCTAR cloud, bundling data streams and feeds provided by IELab participants from 8 research institutions. Each build run also accesses a number of high-perfomance computers external to the cloud in order to execute the more numerically intensive parts of the pipeline, using up to 250 gb of RAM.
Despite it still being in its development phase, the IE Lab supports three PhD projects and one Master project, dealing mostly with environmental issues such as future biofuel production systems, air pollutant transport and greenhouse gas accounting for cities.
